Zachary joined the pensions industry in 1991, initially as a trainee administrator in defined benefit pensions at a Leicester-based consultancy. He switched departments in 1993 to take on the administration of a portfolio of small self-administered schemes (SSAS), extending his interest to self-invested personal pensions (SIPP) from 1996. Zachary took a break from SSAS and SIPP from 1999 to 2004, broadening his pensions experience by working on the winding-up of defined benefit pension schemes for a Nottingham-based independent trustee. He returned to SSAS and SIPP in 2004, spending seventeen years with another Leicester-based consultancy where he worked closely with clients, professional contacts and colleagues in regard to technical aspects of SSAS and SIPP.
In 2011, Zachary was elected to the Committee of the Association of Member-Directed Pension Schemes (AMPS). He served seven years on the AMPS Committee, including three years as Honorary Secretary and two years as Chairman. During that time he served as AMPS representative on the Pension Scams Industry Group (PSIG) and was a co-author of the first edition of PSIG’s Code of Good Practice on Combating Pension Scams.
Zachary joined Westerby The Pension Specialist in 2021 as a Technical Consultant, continuing to specialise in SSAS and SIPP.
Zachary enjoys meeting clients and fellow pensions professionals. His work over the years has included attendance at many SSAS trustees’ meetings, and technical discussions with representatives of bodies such as HM Revenue & Customs, Financial Conduct Authority and The Pensions Regulator. He has also spoken at a number of industry conferences.
